All about South Korea, what is it, this unique country?
You can’t learn all about South Korea even in a few months. Because this is a country where traditions and innovations are combined. Even after hundreds of years, Koreans honor historically important places and people. And also gladly introduce guests to them. South Korea has features, both unique and that are characteristic of Asia as a whole. For example, the names of Koreans can have special meanings. The owner of the name talks about it when they meet. The same is observed in Japan and China. It’s all about their writing system.
Language and dialect
Korean is special in terms of hieroglyphs. Like Chinese Korean writing, it also consists of solid and inseparable characters. However, the basis of Korean writing is Hangul – an analog of the alphabet. In it, as well as in the alphabet, there are vowels and consonants. And also there are diphthongs (compound vowels), which consist of two vowels.
Drawing a parallel between the letters in Russian and Korean, we can say that words are formed as well. Therefore, in the Korean character can be either two characters or four. So if you just write these characters in a different order, then you will get another word. Koreans also borrow a lot of words from English. So you can easily understand what is offered to you by “ice cream” or take a picture on a “photo camera”. Interestingly, they use a special system for naming dishes for food. So even the most ordinary omelet or rice with vegetables has its own name.
Food
The food culture in South Korea is highly developed. Jokingly, Koreans say that food is their main form of leisure. And indeed it is. For example, on dates they most often go to cafes to celebrate something at a restaurant or diner. And even have lunch time for them to go to a nearby restaurant and treat colleagues.
It is worth starting with the fact that both home and street food in Korea is full of variety. Koreans cook meat in all ways known to the world. But what’s most interesting, even in institutions, they do it themselves. In many restaurants, the visitor at the entrance will receive a set of appliances and a table with a burner. On which he can either fry his meat or boil, depending on what order was placed. But almost always a set of snacks such as kimchi (pickled greens in pepper and vinegar, most often cabbage) will go to the meat.
If there is no time to run into the institution, then you can stop at the stalls and buy fish on a stick or a serving of the famous Ttokpokki (rice flour cakes, most often with spicy sauce). You can also cook or buy the most popular kimpab snack in South Korea. Kimpab is a rice roll with vegetables and scrambled eggs wrapped in seaweed. It is possible and meaningless to learn all about South Korea, but the food culture is really very interesting.
Media culture of Korea: cr-ror and dramas
The second thing in South Korea that is loved as much as food is music. And not only Koreans listen to their music, she also fell in love with the whole world and acquired her own phenomenon called K-POP (short for Korean pop music). Korean pop singers are universal artists. They sing, and dance, and play in the series. And Korean-made TV shows have become as popular as K-POP himself. Therefore, many members of musical groups act in films.
Drama is the name for Korean TV shows, which owes its name to Korean pronunciation. Initially, the drama series was considered a drama. But after that the concept expanded to all of Korea’s film production. So girls and boys around the world get acquainted with Korean culture and life through their favorite on-screen characters. What makes the drama special is that it tells about places and professions in South Korea through the stories of the main characters. So, the main characters of the dramas can be doctors, and teachers, and farmers, and racers, and police, and designers, and many others.
